The hospice benefit covers the medical equipment, supplies, and medications needed to support a patient’s comfort and care related to their terminal diagnosis. Because every patient’s needs are different, the specific items provided are determined by the hospice care team and guided by each patient’s individualized plan of care.

What Equipment, Supplies, & Medications Does Hospice Provide?

The equipment, supplies, and medications provided are tailored to each patient’s needs and may change throughout their hospice journey as their condition and plan of care evolve. As part of the plan of care, the hospice team coordinates the ordering, delivery, and setup of necessary equipment, supplies, and medications—helping families focus on their loved one rather than arranging these services on their own.

Based on the patient’s individual needs, hospice care may include:

  • Medical Equipment: Hospital beds, pressure-relief mattresses, wheelchairs and other mobility aids, oxygen equipment, bedside commodes, walkers, canes, and other equipment needed for comfort and safety.
  • Medical Supplies: Incontinence products, wound care supplies, and other necessary personal care items related to the patient’s hospice diagnosis.
  • Medications: Medications related to the terminal diagnosis and associated conditions, with a focus on managing pain, controlling symptoms, and maintaining comfort.
